Team Me – Activate as a Team

Part six in a six-part series

By the time we’ve reached the final session of the Team Me small group experience, members will have absolute clarity about the “more” they are intended for and will be able to clearly visualize what they need to do to achieve it. But we will take this one-step further by using the last session to activate as a team. In Session 8, we will document our 10-year, 3-year and 1-year milestones and action plans, and then define how we will continue to support each other – as we hold ourselves accountable to pursuing a life of impact and fulfillment.

Goals and Action Plans Matter, but Accountability Rules the Day

A recent study published by psychology researcher Dr. Gail Matthews confirmed the anecdotal evidence of business coaches and people leaders across every industry – writing down your goals and action plans dramatically increases the likelihood you will achieve them. (Inc. published a nice summary here.)

Most important, Matthews found that 73 percent of the participants in her study, who sent weekly performance updates to a friend, reported successful goal achievement (completely accomplished their goal or were more than halfway there), compared to 35 percent of those who kept their goals to themselves, without writing them down.

Goal setting and action plans not only help us clarify what we are really pursuing, but also help us screen out other opportunities that, while potentially worthy, can easily distract us.

Team Me group members will have the option of continuing their membership, to support each other as they overcome obstacles, encounter self-sabotage, or refine and reimagine their ultimate impact path as they continue to grow and learn. A new curriculum will be brought in to support the journeys of individual members staying in the group.

Accountability, With A Twist

Accountability does rule the day, but in a Team Me small group, accountability looks different. We are not about keeping score and checking off goals from a to-do list. Instead, we hold each other accountable to holding ourselves accountable. When we encounter roadblocks or lose enthusiasm to pursue what we thought mattered most (and those moments will undoubtedly arise), we challenge each other to explore why. We get curious about what is holding us back. We help each other redefine and reimagine our goals that should evolve as we continue to change and grow.

Because life is a journey. Joy is in the doing. And finding community through our pursuits is the answer.

Thank you for subscribing to this blog series. We hope to see you in session.

Let’s change the world!
